Seacroft Golf Club
About the club
Discussions of links courses in the UK give scant attention to the coast of Lincolnshire, and indeed Seacroft, near the seaside town of Skegness, is the only club located along the two-hundred miles of coastline between Seaton Carew and Norfolk. The site is rather remote, but the trip is well worth the effort. Like the Royal Troon, the course here plays as nine holes each out and back. The holes are distributed next to, rather than amid, the dunes, while the two nines are separated by a raised strip of sand. Because of the layout, the sea breezes aren't quite as much of a factor as is the case with other links, though blasts from the Continent can result in frigid conditions. Nine holes were originally laid out in the late nineteenth century, but 1883 Open winner Willie Fernie undertook major renovations around 1900 that included the addition of nine more holes.
