About the club
Affectionately referred to as Stoke Poges, this club occupies an attractive site that looks out over the northern edge of the city of Slough, some twenty miles outside London. The centerpiece of the club is a splendid Palladian-style mansion that serves as the clubhouse that, while under the ownership of Slough Estates PLC, suffered neglect. Since the club was purchased by the King family, however, the mansion has been thoroughly renovated, and now its best rooms serve as luxury accommodations. The course was designed by Harry S. Colt during the time when he was still associated with Sunningdale, and one of Colt's collaborators, Hugh Alison, carried out further work. Tournament play at Stoke Park dates back to a British Girls Championship in the 1920s and includes the Agfa Gevaert Tournament in the Sixties and Seventies. The site is also famous as one of the settings for shooting the Bond flick Goldfinger.
