The Blairgowrie Golf Club - Rosemount
About the club
The original course at Blairgowrie was laid out in 1899, but then in the 1920s Alister MacKenzie and James Braid joined forces to create one of the earliest and loveliest Scottish inland courses, the Rosemount, a revered landmark in Scottish golf. A second eighteen holes, called the Landsdowne, was added in the Seventies to accommodate some of the traffic attracted by Rosemount. Landsdowne caters to experienced players and today's technology with a lengthier, more up-to-date layout, though unfortunately two of Rosemount's holes had to be rerouted to make room. The classic course remains the real draw, however, with its wooded borders and heather, though less than one finds at heathland courses outside London. The grounds are home to Britain's rare red squirrels, which flash amid the trees in the fall, and are trying to hold on against the encroachment of the dominant gray squirrels.
