The Carnegie Links at Skibo Castle
About the club
A 9 hole course designed by John Sutherland (Secretary of Royal Dornoch Golf Club) was laid out on the site in the early 1900s for Skibo’s then proprietor, industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. Over the course of the twentieth century, that course fell into disrepair and disappeared. The Carnegie Links was originally laid out in 1995 by Donald Steel and Tom Mackenzie on the site of the original course (though the layout bore no resemblance to the earlier course), and between 2003 and 2008 underwent significant redesign at the hands of Mackenzie and the club’s Estate Director, Gary Gruber, and Director of Golf, David Thomson. Normally only available to members resident at The Carnegie Club at Skibo Castle – one of the world’s most prestigious private members clubs – the Carnegie Links sees fewer than 4,000 rounds played on the course annually. During the summer months, the club offers limited access to non-residents via The Carnegie Links Experience. In order to maintain the empty fairways and relaxed atmosphere that makes the Carnegie Links so unique, this is strictly limited to one four-ball per day with a 9am tee time.
