The Celtic Manor Resort - The Twenty Ten Course
About the club
Celtic Manor, a golfing resort complex in the Usk River Valley developed by Terry Matthews, features three full courses, Colin Montgomerie's Montgomerie, Robert Trent Jones Sr.'s Roman Road and Robert Trent Jones II's Twenty Ten. The latter course was constructed specifically to host the 2010 Ryder Cup, and the specifications of the European Tour called for a layout of the kind typically found in the US. The 7263-meter par 71 plays downhill into the lowlands on the initially links-like front nine and then returns uphill going home. Water is in play on nine of the holes, and the 18th rounds things off with a real test. Those expecting resort golf are in for a surprise, for the Twenty Ten has some sharp teeth in addition to considerable length, though fairways and greens are generously sized. The Twenty Ten Clubhouse looks out over the course and is equipped with two bars and a restaurant.
