The Gleneagles Resort - The Queen’s Course
About the club
The Queen's course at Gleneagles was designed to be a less challenging alternative to the King's, the club's other course, as the names make clear. So while the two were both created by architect James Braid, and are very much of a piece with regard to overall look and feel—ample fairways, big greens and effective bunkering—the Queen's is less lengthy, and its holes are better protected from the elements by the relatively more forested environs. Braid was careful to work the native embankments and cliffs into his layout, and to give his holes the added pleasure of excellent views. As poet Pat Dickinson memorably put it, "Gleneagles is one of the wonders of the golfing world, a kind of Hanging Gardens of Babylon on a Scottish hillside." There is a lot of fun to be had here, even if one's game isn't in top form.
