Nairn, Scotland
The Nairn Golf Club
About the club
Framed, as is Old Moray, by the Cairngorms range in the eastern Highlands on one side and the North Sea on the other, Nairn is an authentic links with a beautiful blend of gorse and sedge amid stunted pines buffeted by gusts from all sides. The course here is one of an astonishing number designed by Old Tom Morris in Scotland, and its outlines are still evident even after renovations by James Braid in the 1930s and more recently by legendary player and entrepreneur Ben Sayers. The bunkers show Braid's influence, both in form and in strategy—even accomplished contemporary players will be put to the test landing drives and planning second shots. The length has been kept sufficiently long to attract such events as the 1999 Walker Cup, in which Great Britain and Ireland came from behind to claim an upset victory over the US.
