About the club

West Hill, established in 1909, is often mentioned in the same breath with Worplesdon and Woking in nearby Surrey. These three courses are all naturally overshadowed by neighboring Wentworth and Sunningdale, but each of them exemplifies that class of iconic courses for which the region has been known since the early 1900s. West Hill was of moderate length when it opened, and has remained essentially unchanged in this respect owing to the encroachment of surrounding houses. Yet while the top players of today demand significantly greater challenges than those of a century ago, today's average players are about as skilled as they've always been, and for this reason courses like West Hill continue to offer challenging but pleasant golf to all but the very cream of the crop. Groves help to define most of the holes, and the cleverly located bunkers and stands of native grass create the intrigue.
