About the club
Just a half hour drive from the center of Hanoi, Van Tri is Vietnam's earliest members-only club, having opened in 2007, as part of a residential development. The 6791-meter, par 72 layout was created by P & Z Designs' Peter Rousseau, who mixes things up nicely. The course takes its name from a nearby dam, so natural creeks and pools are a factor on at least nine holes, and fairways are contoured, tree-lined and well-bunkered. The signature seventeenth, a 600-yard par 5, nicely encapsulates the experience, being a double dogleg where a strong drive with a forced carry over water is required to be set up tackle a pair of bunkers on your second and proceed over a brook just to approach the green. Amenities are top-notch, where male players at least can relax in the jacuzzi in the locker room. Both an invitation and a handicap are required for play here.
