About the club

Nestled at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Winton Country Club boasts a par 71 golf course with breathtaking mountain vistas at every turn. Designed by Ed Ault and opened in 1970, Winton’s 18-Hole championship course features large Bentgrass greens and Bermuda grass fairways. With five sets of tees ranging in length from over 6800 yards to 5300 yards, it is rated 71. 2 and has a slope rating of 123. Visitors to Winton consistently praise our greens and fairways as some of the best they play all year, anywhere in the state. In 1978, Winton Members and their first head golf professional, the late Jim Butler, established the Patrick Henry Invitational Tournament. Still organized every summer, this competitive golf tournament for all skill levels has raised over an estimated $200,000 to date for Winton’s adopted charity, the Patrick Henry Boys and Girls Plantation. In addition to regular play, Winton hosts a number of corporate, civic and charity golf outings each year, offering very attractive group rates and services including meals, when desired. Winton has also been selected to host PGA and USGA qualifying events, including several PGA Playing Ability Tests (PAT’s), the 1994 Woman’s Southern Amateur, 2007 Virginia State Amateur qualifier, the 2011 ESPN National Golf Challenge and the 2012 Woman’s Southern Senior Amateur.
