The group that formed the club was first called Menunketesuck Golf Club. In 1899 the group was reorganized under the name Hill and Dale Club. On August 2, 1922, Hill and Dale members sent a petition to Connecticut's Secretary of State to register the Clinton Country Club. In 1957 a forty-five acre dairy farm on Old Westbrook Road became available for purchase, and the club planned to relocate and begin construction on February 7, 1958.
